Sandro Chia

Born in Florence in 1946, lives and works in New York but often stays in Italy, at Montalcino. Since 1976 his work had a turn, gradually moving from the conceptual art towards the classic ways of painting and drawing. Chia admires and look forward at artist of the past such as Tiziano, Masaccio, Tintoretto, Lotto, Michelangelo and also into contemporary artists like De Chirico, Lèger, Cèzanne, Picabia, Chagall. These recalls were treated and absorbed into his own idea of art, that research into itself the meaning of its existence.
